Tony Dixon 4-part Low D whistle / flute combo (D)
The Tony Dixon 4-part low D whistle / flute is a hand-finished instrument that has been made by Tony Dixon. It has a beautiful traditional low whistle tone. It comes in the key of D major.
The instrument comes with two seperate headjoints, one to use it as a low whistle, so you can easily blow into the end of the mouthpiece, and a flute headjoint which allows you to play the instrument like a side-blown flute, holding it vertically.
It comes with a protective bag to keep it safe.
How to play this low whistle?
- The instrument can be played as a flute or as a whistle
- You get two headjoints that you can easily change
- The whistle headjoint is easy to blow, like a recorder
- It doesn't require a lot of air
- When using the whistle mouthpiece, you hold the instrument horizontally
- When using the flute mouthpiece the instrument is held vertically

On this instrument you can easily and comfortably play in
the following keys:
D major - G major - B minor - E minor
It is possible to play in different keys as well, but you would have to use more 'half notes' by covering half of the hole with your finger
